Markham’s contract renewal with an organization that sparked public outcry in the midst of a ringworm outbreak last year will be reassessed. Markham Council Asks Province to Intervene in OSPCA situation
MARKHAM, ON — May 13, 2010 —Markham Council has passed a motion and written to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) asking them to become involved in recent actions at the York Region branch of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) shelter in Newmarket.
Markham Council acted after learning, this week, about the potential euthanasia of up to 350 animals at the OSPCA facility due to an uncontrolled outbreak of ringworm (Dermatophytosis).
