On 5/11 2010 the Ontario SPCA began to kill every animal in their York Region Shelter in Newmarket, Ontario Canada. A total of 350 animals were to be euthanized, because of a ringworm infestation. Only because of a huge public outcry and the support of M.P.P. Frank Klees and the media, were some animals saved.
OSPCA Truth is concerned that the OSPCA operates without oversight or accountability. The action on 5/11/2010 merely raised public awareness of those issues. We believe that the way to ensure that our animals are protected is by changing existing legislation that gives the OSPCA police powers with no independent accountability. OSPCA Truth believes that an OSPCA with provincial oversight, accountability and funding will be a stronger and better organization that can do more to help animals.
